The high porosity titanium fiber sintered felt is a porous material made of titanium fiber through a sintering process. It has the characteristics of good corrosion resistance, high strength and high purity. It is usually used in fuel cell gas diffusion layer (GDL) and other occasions, especially as anode gas diffusion layer material in PEM (proton exchange membrane) electrolyzer.

Material properties

1. Physical properties

The high porosity titanium fiber sintered felt has a high porosity, usually between 50-70%, which makes the material have good air permeability and water permeability, and is very suitable for use as a filter medium for gas and liquid. In addition, the structure of titanium fiber sintered felt is uniform and the pore size distribution is uniform, which helps to improve its performance stability in various applications.

2. Chemical properties

Titanium is a very active metal, but it forms a dense oxide film in its natural state, which makes it highly corrosion-resistant. Therefore, titanium fiber sintered felt can maintain stable performance in acidic, alkaline and high temperature environments and is not easily corroded.

 

Mechanical properties

The high porosity titanium fiber sintered felt has a high tensile strength, usually between 32-48MPa, which means that it has a strong ability to resist deformation and fracture when subjected to external forces. Preparation process

1. Raw material selection

The first step in preparing titanium fiber sintered felt is to select suitable titanium fibers as raw materials. These titanium fibers usually have high purity and good mechanical properties.

2. Laying and pressing

The titanium fibers are laid into uniform titanium fiber felt by non-woven laying. Then, the felt is pressed multiple times to increase the number of contact points between the fibers, thereby enhancing its overall strength.

3. Sintering process

Sintering is carried out in a vacuum environment to ensure that the titanium fiber felt does not react with oxygen or other impurities in the air during heating. The choice of sintering temperature and time is crucial to the performance of the final product.

4. Post-processing

After sintering, post-processing processes such as leveling and cutting may be required to meet the needs of specific applications. For example, in order to improve conductivity, a layer of precious metals such as platinum or iridium can be plated on the surface of the titanium fiber sintered felt.

The high porosity titanium fiber sintered felt is most widely used in fuel cells. It can be used as a gas diffusion layer for fuel cells, helping the gas to be evenly distributed inside the cell and promoting the transport of electrons and ions.
