Structural Features of Highly Automated Candle Filter

1. Filter Element Structure

a. Main Body: The core component of a candle filter consists of one or more vertically installed "candle tubes." These tubes are composed of a central non-porous tube surrounded by porous tubes, often featuring shapes like plum blossom or American flower patterns to increase filtration area and ensure uniform liquid distribution.

b. Filter Cloth: The outer surface of the candle tubes is enveloped by one or more layers of high-performance filter cloth (or other filtration media), serving as the primary filtration interface. Filter cloth material and pore size are selected based on the properties of the material to be filtered and the required filtration precision.

 

2. Auxiliary Components

a. Base: The bottom of the filter features a removable base cover for cake discharge and cleaning.

b. Collection Pipe: The top of the central tube connects to a collection pipe, which gathers filtrate passing through the filter cloth and discharges it.

c. Backwash System: Comprising air source, piping, and control valves, this system injects backwash gas into the central tube when needed, causing the filter cloth to bulge and effectively dislodging the cake while cleaning the cloth.

d. Control System: Incorporating pressure sensors, level gauges, temperature sensors, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), etc., this system enables automated monitoring and control of the filtration process.

 

Working Principle of Highly Automated Candle Filter

1. Filtration Stage

The feed material, pressurized by a pump, enters the candle filter and passes through the filter cloth into the porous candle tubes. Solid particles are trapped by the cloth, forming a cake layer, while the clarified liquid flows along the tube's center toward the collection pipe.

 

As filtration progresses, the cake thickness increases, but the small interparticle spaces within the cake effectively prevent finer particles from passing through, ensuring effective filtration.

 

2. Cake Dislodgement & Cleaning Stage

When the cake thickness reaches a set value or the filtration differential pressure rises above a threshold, the control system initiates the backwash process. Backwash gas (e.g., air or nitrogen) is injected through the central tube, causing the filter cloth to expand outward, vibrating and dislodging the cake, which falls into the filter's bottom.

 

The backwash gas also removes particles lodged between filter cloth fibers, restoring the cloth's filtration performance. Subsequently, the base cover is closed, new material is filled, and a new filtration cycle begins.
